The World of Banksy – The Immersive Experience
After attracting more than 450,000 spectators to the stations of Milano Centrale, Torino Porta Nuova, Verona Porta Nuova and Roma Tiburtina, The World of Banksy – The Immersive Experience chooses جنوة بيازا برينسيبي as its next stop, continuing its intent to bring culture inside unusual places to offer people of all ages food for thought. In fact, the British artist’s works revive the former ticket hall that had long been closed inside the Genoa Piazza Principe station, making it the new home of this wonderful immersive exhibition from March 3 to July 16, 2023.
The World of Banksy – The Immersive Experience differs from other exhibitions dedicated to the artist and is unique. In fact, the itinerary focuses on the artist’s most spontaneous and original narrative, with the aim of surprising and striking the viewer as if he or she were going around the world and found, upon turning a corner, a life-size mural. This is made even more immersive thanks to the studio of young international and local street artists who have recreated the original context, starting from the type of wall on which Banksy created the graffiti to the installations that make the works three-dimensional. Examples are The Bethlehem Scar و The Little Girl with the Hula Hoop.
The itinerary features more than 100 works, murals and objects by the Bristol-based artist, tracing his entire output, from paintings from the very early stage of his career to his final years, from works made with the hand-graffiti technique to those created with the stencil, which allows for faster execution. Alongside the traditional exhibition narrative, the exhibition features i-Banksy, a virtual section where for the first time the mysterious street artist’s most iconic artworks become animated thanks to short videos that tell the story and social critique behind the murals found around the world, such as Police Riot Van from the Dismaland series-a provocative message with a dark twist on the original Disneyland theme park scenes. Suitable for people of all ages, the exhibition offers a multi-layered telling of a story spanning more than two decades and takes the viewer into a world full of food for thought. Banksy’s, in fact, is a simple but not elementary imagery, with messages that examine the themes of capitalism, war, social control and freedom in relation to the paradoxes of our time.
The station is one of the places that most represents Banksy’s street art and universal language, capable of reaching the hearts, thoughts and souls of all people around the world. The recurring subjects, such as monkeys, mice, policemen who ironically symbolize clearly distinguishable human types and are often slogan bearers, find a home this time inside the Genoa Piazza Principe station, which, thanks to its strategic location near the city center, with its approximately 350 trains a day و 66,000 daily transits, invites travelers to stop and discover the secrets of street art through one of its greatest exponents.
