If you’d like to spend the day differently from usual, overlooking Genoa from its mountains, I suggest this itinerary, which is enchanting.
Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunglasses, sun cream and a bottle of water, even though you will find inns and cafés along the way, where you can rest and have refreshments.
Hi, I’m Andrea, and with this short guide I’m going to illustrate how you can spend the day differently, hiking on Genoa’s mountains.
Field trip in Genoa
Starting from the main station of the city (Genova Brignole), go to Via Canevari and take the turn to Viale Ansaldo.
Climb the stairs that lead to Corso Montegrappa, then the other smaller stairs to Piazza Manin.
Yet more stairs near the newspaper kiosk will lead you to the railway station Genova/Casella (click here for the train schedule).
Get off at Trensasco station and head towards the lodge.
From the lodge, you can take an approximately 7 km path that leads through the woods to Parco del Peralto, in Genoa uplands.
My suggested itinerary is very easy, just a little more than a stroll, and it will allow you to enjoy breath-taking views.
At the end of the path, a road on the right will lead you to the Ostaia delle Baracche, a typical Genoese inn where you’ll find any drink and food you can wish for, from sandwiches to pasta.
Moving forward, you’ll be flanked by a 1 km long fitness trail and on the right you’ll find a picnic area with tables and benches and just below (after an archivolt) the Ostaia da u Richetto, where you can enjoy ice cream or coffee.
Hike down till you cross an old bridge and stop for the breath-taking view over the city on your right.
After that, have some rest at the Bar dei Cacciatori, in front of the astronomical observatory and head back to the centre of Genoa with the funicular Zecca-Righi, that leads to Piazza dell’Annunziata.
It is within walking distance from Via Cairoli, Via Garibaldi and the alleys of Genoa, where you can end the day with an awesome happy hour in Piazza Lavagna or Piazza delle Erbe before dinner.
Those who love the mountains can reach Crocefieschi (a district of Busalla), where you’ll find many climbing spots and via ferratas.
In particular, the Ferrata Deanna Orlandini is well known for its beauty and the diversity of landscapes.
